Most of the 4D "models" I have looked at have this flaw, immediately relegating them to the Toy category.....
As you can see the actual hull and topside detail is there or thereabouts. Reasonably modified they would do for my requirements. However, the road wheels are in no way shape or form acceptable, and do not match the pictures on the box, as shown below...
More's the pity! Most modelers and gamers I know like a challenge and would have some fun bringing these kits up to scratch, but what to do about the road wheels? Everything else I can modify or live with.
Ideas please? I don't have a single one of these and wouldn't mind adding this to my cold war collection, just because I could.
I bet your "bodgie" expert mate, Paul will have an answer.
ReplyDeletelol mate, I'm kinda hoping he does, except his bone yard resource pool is a wee bit deeper than mine :)
DeleteI have got my thinking cap on...Let me sleep on it.
ReplyDeleteUgly mate.
I agree about the side skirts.

Another option would be to print out a T55 side view and scale it to the model then glue. The length of the actual running gear to the hull looks way too short so I would be careful there to make it longer.
It looks a real dog mate.
Gulppp i know this box, all of them ..... good luck Al..

try this: eliminate all the wheels and glue back to the correct position just five of them (plus 2) each side, then you can paint in black the inside and draw the rim with a tiny brush.
ReplyDeletelet me know if this helped you!
bye
T-55 and older are five road wheels
ReplyDeleteT-72 has six tieyörää.
:)
Roller bearing wheels get all the 2S5 (hyacinth), roll the cannon road wheels
Dig it in? Bury it up to the hull in a static position? That's pretty much what, for example, the poor benighted Iraqis did in recent times.
ReplyDeleteSide skirt armour. Quick and easy.
ReplyDeleteDremel and evil laugh...... I would go with side skirts too. Then paint as some generic 3rd world army.

ReplyDeleteHmmm, Interesting problem. I guess it depends on how much work you want to do and what level of result you would deem acceptable. As such, the only correct solution is the one you are happy with.
ReplyDeleteI would be tempted to cut down and reshape the front and rear fenders on each side and rebuild the running gear (perhaps even using roadwheels from a late model T-34/85 kit and making a mould to cast for future versions of this kit)) and then put some side skirts on, to hide the rebuild.
Looking forward to seeing your end result!
Awesome responses team! Thank you for taking the time to lend your thoughts to this project.
ReplyDeleteCheers
Crickey I have never seen the like of that rad wheel combination, the model designer must have hated tanks
