Picked these up the other day. It is always good to see new material from an iconic brand but for the most part these figures fall way short of expectation
They are for the later war period (how original, just what we needed) with the exception of the figure above, which with a new head and base removed should fit right in with the Zevezda figures I am collecting. Anyway...
Finally started the Matchbox Japanese
These are the company command platoons, decided to go with Tamiya, Dark Yellow for the flesh colours, so far so good.
I was very disappointed by those Airfix Brits. They almost look like Airfix designed them in the 70s and then forgot about them for 40 years or so. May yet buy a box if only to salvage the PIAT blokes - not a great pose I know, but why are all the PIATs in plastic such rubbish? OTOH the Matchbox Japanese are lovely figures...
ReplyDeleteCheers, Dave
Agreed Dave, they could have been so much more, I may try a few conversions at some stage to see what I can salvage
DeleteIIRC Jacksarge did some nice conversions with them. Check out some of the older 'Airfix' posts on his blog...
DeleteCheers, Dave
That figure on the box, lower left has a rather bizarre pose!
ReplyDeleteThe Japanese look nice, look forward to seeing them finished up.
there are a couple of other suspect poses too
DeleteGood luck with the Japanese. I've been looking at some of the Far East scenarios on Bob MacKenzie's excellent site. Maybe after a few Tunisian games...
ReplyDeletejungle stuff is hard to do in CD, allowing 5" LoS in bush helps, big fan of Bob's work, me and Paul and Dave have played a few of his scenarios
DeleteAgreed, Bobs games rock!
DeleteIf you want my advice always check Plastic Soldier Review's site. They speak truth.
ReplyDeleteYay for Early WW2!
thanks James, PSR is certainly one of the better sources, great collection of images
