German Para, progress

I have another two battalions on the work bench as well. This first regiment will be early war (39-41), almost entirely Airfix figures in composition, and hopefully have about every third or forth figure modified. These are all at the final touch up stage

I tried a new approach with the way I painted these, heavy dry brushing over a black undercoat

As always, some turned out better than others. I'm planning to start using a soldering iron instead of glue on future projects like this

Each company needs mmg figures to be completed and there are not many available in plastic, especially since you only get a couple in a box. Problematic and still working on this one - maybe some drastic conversion on the right donor figure of a similar size to the Airfix ones? 

Commando Boat Crew

A little project I've had on the go for ages, thanks to Paul http://plasticwarriors.blogspot.com.au/?view=classic and Tim http://megablitzandmore.blogspot.com.au/ for the figures

Second edition Airfix kayak. The rear figure has had a slung weapon added but is otherwise standard. The gunner is from the Revell US infantry set

For CD3 purposes it just counts as a standard Commando platoon; it might see the odd raider type scenario 

A couple of the crew closing in on an enemy vessel while it is refueling - not usually attempted in broad daylight :)

Have since added decals to the launch.

More Cold War Russians

Like my earlier attempts, a mixture of Esci WW2 + Spetsnaz. I managed a motorised regiment, now all I need is the motors, which may later come in the form of the new S-Models BDRM-2 and BMP1s.

The arm here is from the pointing gun-layer in the Airfix 6lbs set, but any arm will do, it doesn't have to be pointing

Arms holding mortar bombs are from Matchbox figures, but, again, any arm will do

Used the ACTA GPMG gunner for the loader on this one.

French AALMG

Progress on my 1940 dragoon regiment continues with the addition of this anti-aircraft light machinegun platoon 

figures are Pegasus and Esci, the loader didn't quite get the attention he needed 

I used a bit of Citadel Liquid Green-Stuff here and there as an experiment, pretty good gap filler though in fairness a wee bit expensive :(

This unit would usually be part of a RHQ but can be attached to other commands if required. Of dubious AA capability, it is a deterrent at best and would be unlikely to bring down an aircraft on its own. Still, something different  

WW2 French Engineers

Now that my daughter's 21st birthday is over with I have found some time to myself and here are the latest results...

Figures are Pegasus and Caesar

In CD3 there are several combinations of attachment for engineers, so, depending on the size of the main formation, anything from one to five additional engineer platoons might be added to the OOB.

I tried to style them in the assault mode rather than construction. This unit does not enjoy the same firepower as a German equivalent of the same time but is still a very versatile and solid unit of infantry nonetheless.

One of the more ambitious projects I've tried for a while. Decent pictures were had to find, so in the end I just went with a mixture of French figures with a few head swaps

HQ, eventually I'll add another couple of companies for a full battalion. As far as tabletop representations go they're okay, but as usual better research and more donor figures would have produced better results.

The uniform colours are Vallejo French tank crew. All still have some minor touching up to do.
