Slow Progress

Progress has been very limited and the picture above shows the only completed stand out of four battalions currently on the work bench.

This is the rest in varying states of completion.

The only other thing I've found time to do is this Stug, also not finished, and partially completed Yak fighter in the background. I started researching Seelow Heights 1945 the other night but quickly found that I don't have half the kit needed to do the bit we were looking at, and so have decided to have a crack at a scenario that has already been written and tested. Here is the link:

Japanese Aircraft Finished

I finished this last night whilst watching a great old movie that my wife got me for Christmas, The Sand Pebbles. In the end my attempts to match the paint job with the box art proved fruitless, and I have made a note to check out air-brush options as a result.

The airframe was painted with Boltgun Metal and then given a couple of coats of Armour Wash, after that a few areas got some light dry-brushing to dull down the shiny bits, then the camouflage green was added.

Our Rottweiler delivered seven puppies New Years Day and these have required a great deal of attention at all hours of the day and night, so I expect to have some more time to model away whilst burning the midnight oil in the days ahead. Movies, models and puppy guard duty, a winning combination; now if only I can squeeze in a little sleep?

Japanese Aircraft

A bit of progress after a short trip away. This is the only Japanese aircraft I have and quite a nice little kit to assemble it was. I normally leave the canopy off until painting is complete but I got a bit sidetracked while I was making it, so it's on there now.

Thought I might have a go at a paint job that matches the box art, but I need to pick up a couple of new paint colours first.

Japanese, WIP

Watching test cricket, smoking, drinking, and messing around with miniatures, joy! Here are a few pictures of my progress with the new Japanese.

I've settled on six battalions of infantry, plus the normal HQ units and engineers. If I get really enthusiastic I'll add the final regiment, full engineer and bridging elements to make for an entire division in CD terms; full strength artillery attachments, however will be more problematic as I don't have enough Japanese guns.

This battalion is made up solely from the Waterloo 1815 set

These are the MMG platoons for the infantry battalions.

Don't have enough models of them so have had to knock-up a couple of mortar stands, still have to tidy the waist on this one with green-stuff.

Here are the donor figures, many thanks to Paul from Plastic Warriors for these spares, couldn't have fully equipped the battalions with mortars or weapons platoons without them.

Another mortar knock-up, the tube is from an Italeri German figure set.

Anti-tank rifle platoons and gun crew stand.

This one is of the pole-charge anti-tank sections, one that I made, and one new one. You might have to wait awhile to see painted pictures, but we'll see how we go.

Was getting pretty desperate for MMG stands so this old Atlantic something or other stood in, it never had a head in the first place so I wasn't losing much. If I acquire some more MMG figures before paint time for this unit I'll replace it as the gun, crude and representative as it is, simply looks awful, anyway, we'll see.
