Current Project

Amongst other things on the go at present, here are a few pictures of my Korean War Project.

First up a weapons company of British Infantry. Of course, the EM2 never made it into operational service but that doesn't matter for game purposes. Next is a NKPA Penal Battalion.

Lastly today, an NKPA Combat Team. Small in numbers though they may be, they contain a very high proportion of automatic weapons.

Wargame Buildings

Getting suitable and affordable buildings has always been difficult for me. The rules I use work better when units can actually be placed inside them, and at different levels. Here are a few pictures of my buildings

These are made using Linka moulds. Great for making buildings that look different, yet have similar apperance. Someone suggested using casting resin instead of plaster which I will eventually do. I like the Linka stuff, however, plaster is fragile and all your good work can be easily spoilt, as can be seen from the pictures.

Next is an attempt at some Asian buildings using beer coasters. These are made from bamboo and have a fine mesh backing to keep them together; alas another one of my good ideas that lacked the finishing to make them look really good. The layout is copied from the excellent Airfix Jungle Outpost set.

This is a picture from a solo game that I am playing at the moment, Poland 1939. In it there are some plastics that I made from spare parts, and a railway model.

Early War Figures

The range of early war figures in plastic is a bit limited. I've made a number of conversion attempts on BEF possibles, for example, but never really been happy with the result.

Anyway, Here are some of the dismounted infantry in greatcoats for the motorcycle companies, and a bicycle company on the right.

And, a Japanese battalion command stand; using different heads, backpacks, etc can change a figures appearance just enough sometimes, and the more your patience the better result

Chinese Porters

Something a bit unusual today, 1930s Chinese Porters. Pictured here is the porter group for my Nationalist Chinese Infantry Regiment. All conversions they fit in okay with the rest of the unit. Technically they are non-combatants, but the rule set I use allows for defensive fire if the occassion calls for it.

Early War Germans

First, some old aircraft. I have had these for ages, they are the standard air support items for my Germans forces. I think most of my aircraft kits are Aixfix or Matchbox; the Great War stuff is a bit more of a mixture, but I'll post them later.

Armour.

Lastly, a company of motorcycle infantry. I made dismounted stands for each platoon from the extras you get with this set and some spares from the bits box; as they are also wearing greatcoats they match quite well.

Early War French

The Lorraine APC with an R35 in the background, the former is metal and the latter resin; be nice if someone did a cheap, quick-build of the Lorraine.
Second picture includes a couple of gun tractors and an S35 that I picked up when working in Korea.

More Early Stuff

First a picture of two of my favourite early war aircraft, the Defiant usually provides 'top-cover' for the Battle

I only have a couple of these but they are great little models, the heavily armoured (but not armed) Matilda I. This one is from SHQ, I think; I only buy
stuff in resin or metal if it is not available in plastic.

Kiwis for Crete

A while back I attempted some fairly modest conversions to represent New Zealand soldiers during the operations on Crete. Predictably, the modest attempt produced modest results, and I may have a crack at
repainting and rebasing them sometime down the track. Most of the figures received a back pack but a few got head swaps and long trousers added also.

This group of Kiwis were based on the excellent Matchbox ANZAC set; back packs added plus helmets with netting covers where possible. I still believe that the theory for this conversion was sound, just the execution that was lacking.

Early WW2

I wargame The Great War, World War Two, and the Korean War, but my favourite is early WW2. Here are a few pictures of my stuff from this era.

ANZAC Trench Raiders, an NKVD platoon for my Soviet Naval Infantry, and an ROK command stand for my Korean War project

Over the holidays I found time to make some buildings. They are mostly made from old railway models, but there are a few bits from an Airfix Fort Sahara kit in there as well.
