The Davey Collection 1

A couple of pictures today from the extensive and most excellent collection from Gerard Davey of Hokitika

Much of Gerard's collection is scratch built from plastic card to a very high standard

The level of detail and painting on the collection is consistently improving; Gerard is oft quoted for saying "... poverty is a great motivator [for innovation]."

All are to scale and the kit looks just fine when mixed with standard plastic models. Gerard also has a nice figure collection and gun park too, but I'll show you that another time.

Matador Truck

This didn't get quite the same amount of attention as Morris' Austin but for gaming it will do

Decals still to apply

Just one truck left to make.

Morris' Austin Truck

This one comes from the Airfix Emergency Set. However, I wanted it to be a troop carrier, rather than ambulance and this is what I ended up with

The well-sides are from another Airfix model that I'm working on, the Matador. I may yet add a tarp-frame to it or perhaps a Bren gun mounted somewhere. This is a really simple kit with a lot of possibilities. Keep on Truckin.

Early war assault pioneers

Based on the excellent Revell German Engineers set

One or two figures have had arms swapped and heads twisted but otherwise are standard figures

Painted in early war colours as most of the pictures I found showed them uniformed in this way

Unlike other German infantry units of this era they have no machine gun or weapons platoons, yet still possess formidable anti-tank capability, which sort of makes up for their lack of use against infantry

I did these whilst waiting for trucks to arrive

QLD finished

Here is my first finished truck, it went together quite well and will certainly see a lot of game time from here on

I also have three other trucks that I'm working on, literally doubling the amount of allied trucks I have in my collection. Airfix did a great job of this kit and I'd highly recommend it.

Truck progress 2

Not finished but getting close

This is only about the fourth truck I've ever made, though I have a few more in the queue owing to recent arrivals

Leaving the cover off as this make for easier figure portage, and left the windows out too. A little more time should see this finished soon.

Truck progress

Managed to put a bit of time into the truck project yesterday.
Airfix have done a good job of this kit, nice detail, with well engineered parts

Might get to finish it tonight.

Score!

Finally something to contribute to the current theme. As with the Japanese aircraft we did earlier, I will build one of these and Paul will do the other. As I only have a sum total of about a dozen trucks in all this will be a welcome addition. Thanks to Paul for the model and support

WW1 French - started

Finally made a start on these excellent Pegasus French

They are easily the best available at present, the sculpting is simply superb

I have enough figures for one battalion of all Pegasus figures, and should be able to make another using a mixture of any left-overs plus some of the better Airfix and Revell poses. Will start making trucks as soon as they arrive!

Progress - not much!

I too am awaiting the arrival of some ordered trucks, so until they arrive here is about the only thing I've been working on lately. This unit will form the motorcycle platoon of my small Russian recon collection. HaT bike with Soviet crew.
