Great War 4.5s

Great little models these, well overdue in plastic

Have been trawling E-Bay looking for a Gloster Meteor, and in so doing have been amazed by the amount of supposedly "Pro-painted" things there are to choose from, which to me begs the question... says who? Is this a recent thing or have I just been missing something? The prices seem absurd given the quality of work I see everyday on the Blogs of others, and yet none of those I frequently draw inspiration from claim to be "Pro" anything. Would certainly be interested to hear your thoughts.

  1. Some people on ebay have a very high opinion of their work.

  2. The expression 'Pro-Painted' does seem to be rather over used these days. I suppose it deends on your exact definition - I regard myself as (and am qualified as)a 'Professional' person when it comes to my day job, but very much still a bungling amateur when holding a paintbrush. So if you broaden 'Pro-Painted' to include 'Painted by a professional Investment Adviser' then I can include this claim in fiture ebay listings! But I don't think I'll bother.

  3. I agree, most so called "pro-painted" stuff isn't that great. Trademe is no better either for it.

Some stuff also suffers because the photos are taken out of focus and in the dark, or are the size of a postage stamp.

  4. I agree, to me "pro-painted" is effectively meaningless now.
To me, what's important is - is it painted or unpainted?

  5. Nice 4.5's. Good detail work.

Do not get me started on Pro-painted items. Some Flames of war stuff I can agree as the bobs painting them work for the Company and they are test stuff, but others groan!

Perhaps they think they can jack up the price. Modern Kiwi's stuff I would consider Pro-painted, and my stuff Bro-Painted perhaps.

To be a professional model or figure painter full time is the dream of many.

    Model on!

  7. I tried selling some of my stuff on Trademe (not as "pro painted" though), but didn't really get anything more than cost of materials for it. Don't think I'll be doing that again.

  9. "Pro-painted" has been floating around on ebay for Warhammer items for as long as there has been an ebay. Originally it meant that the models were painted by someone who would enter painting competitions and expect to win.

Now it means "owns a camera".

Once upon a time I was actually a "pro-painter". It was not that fun.

  11. Honest opinions lads, the subject only came up after I asked one seller for a reference or some bigger pictures at least and received a flat out NO, I wonder if they sell much at all?

  12. Nicely done on these.

The "pro-painted" thing puzzles me sometimes. I find my own painting to be just "acceptable" (certainly not "pro"). Yet I've seen some extreme cases of items for sale that present themselves as "pro" and that I'd be ashamed to have on my table.
